Walk Me Home – Orange Shirt Day

September 30 is Orange Shirt Day / the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

The day is meant to honour the lost children and survivors of the residential school system in Canada, as well as to recognize the ongoing impacts of colonization on Indigenous communities.

This day serves as a reminder of the importance of truth-telling in addressing historical injustices and fostering reconciliation between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Peoples.

Connect with the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation and read their reports including the final Truth and Reconciliation Commission Report here.

On Thursday September 26, the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Edmonton hosted a Truth and Reconciliation Day Walk for staff, partners, patients and visitors.

One of our staff members won the contest to name the event with: Walk Me Home

The event include an opening prayer by Emil Durocher, remarks from Royal Alexandra Hospital leadership, and guest speaker Adam North Peigan, a 60’s scoop survivor.
