Indigenous Languages Project

We’re excited to announce our initiative to incorporate Indigenous languages from across Alberta into the design of HEROS Hockey Hockeyball sticks. This pilot project aims to empower Indigenous youth by providing them with tools to overcome adversity through sport. In line with this goal, we’ve thoughtfully designed the hockey sticks to reflect that commitment.

Recognizing the vital role language plays in identity, culture, and history, we’ve integrated phrases from Indigenous languages that embody the spirit of “To try hard” or “To persevere.” This initiative not only honors our rich cultural heritage but also inspires resilience and perseverance in the next generation.

Iiyika’kimaat – “To try hard” in the Blackfoot Language  (Siksikáí’powahsin)

Ahkameyimok – “All of you persevere or try hard” in the Cree Language (Nêhiyawêwin)

Aîchiktaga – “To do your best” in the Stoney Language (Îethka Îabi)

Wo kaa’wo tsaa’aah – “To persevere or to try hard” in the Dene Tha’ Language

De’ghare hur es d’say – “To persevere or to try hard” in the Denesuline Language (Dëne Sųłıné)

Gumisitiy – “To persevere or keep going” in the Tsuut’ina Language

Piyish kaakashkitow – “Persevere” in the Michif Language
