The First Nations Health Consortium is thrilled to welcome Indigenous youth from across Alberta to the third annual Youth Teepee Summit, scheduled to take place from July 29-31, 2024 at the Northeast River Valley Event Centre in Edmonton.
This extraordinary event will bring together Indigenous youth from Treaty Six, Seven and Eight First Nations, providing them with guidance from speakers, facilitators and Elders. This year’s summit will explore the themes of sports and recreation, storytelling and entrepreneurship, and cultural teachings.
Participants will hear from motivational speakers who are experts in their respective fields including musicians, authors and professional athletes. Keynote speakers include Indigenous entrepreneur, mentor, and creator and host of the APTN series Bear’s Lair Geena Jackson; Indigitech pioneer and business incubator Barry Morrisette; professional volleyball player and Olympian Kerrie Buchberger; authors Gloria and Olivia Iatridis; professional snowboarder Liam Gill, and actor and storyteller Telly James, among others.
Other plenaries include ‘The Role of Free Play and the Power of Sport’, ‘Improv Session of Writing’, an athlete panel, as well as sports and recreation activities on-site such as ball hockey, soccer, volleyball and curling. The event is aimed at enabling Indigenous youth to share their ideas, perspectives and aspirations. Equine therapy and other exciting cultural teachings will be taking place, as well as over 30 vendors and much more!
We would like to extend an invitation to attend this once-a-year Indigenous youth event, and to schedule an interview in advance. Please contact us in advance to attend the event as media.
