For four-year-old Jaesyn, the end of every month is marked by an exciting ritual: the race to the mailbox for her new book from Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.
“The anticipation and excitement when a new book arrives is just wonderful,” shares Jaesyn’s mother. “She knows that box holds a treasure just for her.”
While many families appreciate the quality of the books provided by the program, for Jaesyn and her mother, the true success lies in the thoughtful and relevant content. The selection of stories has proven to be deeply meaningful, featuring narratives and characters that are relevant to Indigenous children.
“The books were truly great, and the fact that they included stories Jaesyn could relate to, that reflected her own world and culture, made all the difference,” her mother explains. “Seeing herself reflected on the page, in beautiful, positive stories, made her feel connected and affirmed.”
This personal connection fueled an incredible enthusiasm for literacy. Reading time quickly became Jaesyn’s favorite part of the day, transforming a simple activity into a cherished, magical experience.
“She absolutely loved reading time,” her mother recalls. “It wasn’t just about reading words; it was about connecting with stories that resonated with who she is.”
Thanks to Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, Jaesyn is not just receiving free books; she is building a strong, joyful foundation for a lifelong love of learning, seeing her own identity celebrated in the stories she holds in her hands.
