Big Dreams, Big Smiles: Zach Whitecloud Makes Special Visit to Treaty 7

Zach Whitecloud Hockey Hero siksika

A special afternoon on April 22 at Chief Old Sun Elementary School on Siksika Nation as First Nations Health Consortium proudly partnered with HEROS Hockey and the Calgary Flames to bring Stanley Cup champion and current Flame Zach Whitecloud to visit students and staff.

Chief Old Sun Elementary is a valued partner in our FNHC Sports and Recreation Program and proudly runs HEROS Hockey Ball as part of its physical education program. That partnership helps create fun, active, and meaningful opportunities for students through sport.

Wednesday was a great example of that impact. Zach spent time meeting students, playing hockey ball, signing autographs, and creating memories that will last a long time. Just as important was seeing young people watch someone who has reached the highest level of hockey and know that big dreams are possible.

A big thank you to the teachers and staff, whose excitement and support helped make the visit so special.

This experience was part of a broader initiative to introduce First Nations youth to curling in a way that is fun, inclusive, and rooted in community.
